Three Reasons Why You Should Do a Three Day Juice Cleanse

Here I am again, talking about the juice. I really can’t stop. As I sit here typing I am drinking my kale, spinach, celery, cucumber, alfalfa sprout, carrot, red pepper, scallion and cilantro juice, and I swear it is making me feel better as I drink it.

Although I have done a long juice fast and received great benefit from it, it is not necessary to do to reap the health rewards from drinking fresh pressed vegetable juice. I will say, though, that I am a huge fan doing a three day juice cleanse, and here are three reasons why:

1) A three day juice cleanse will reset your system.

For three days you are simply ingesting vegetables and fruit—no processed or artificial “food.” The processed food is what sets up cravings, especially foods with a lot of sugar and white flour. They are not nutrient dense as are our beloved vegetables, so you are not getting the nutrients your body needs. This causes the body to want something else to eat. Also, eating these foods causes your blood sugar to spike which leads to a release of insulin, and then a big drop in blood sugar, which causes you to be hungry again and craving more of the same. The three day cleanse basically hits the reset button and halts the processed carbohydrate cravings.

2) A three day cleanse will make you look at food differently.

When you are getting flooded with super nutrients and are not in the land of constant cravings, you will notice a change with your relationship to food. I have found that I don’t really need to eat as much as I used to. I feel nourished by the food I eat, therefore I am not looking for something else to fill that void. And the change in how I feel (lots of energy!) from drinking and eating nutrient dense foods makes me want more of the same. It’s a perfect jump start for getting into a super nutritious eating pattern for health and weight loss, if that is what you are looking for.

3) The third reason is simple—you will feel better when you are done.

You might feel a little tired or spacey the first or second day as the cleanse starts to clear out stored toxins from your system. But after the third day you will feel great and might just want to keep going! You will likely have more energy and you will feel light and healthy. You might start seeing that healthy glow in your skin. You will have better mental clarity and your body will be happy.

I hear these results from people again and again. The best medicine in the world is found on our plates and in our glasses. A three day cleanse will set you on the right track to better health and well being. Doesn’t this make you want to try it?

    how long does juice keep? i’m on a road trip, and a 3 day juice cleanse would be perfect now since i won’t be so active over the next few days. any recommended juice i can purchase already made before i land where i can plug in my juicer?

      Juice will keep refridgerated two or three days although for optimal nutrient value it is best to drink it just pressed. I would wait to do a cleanse for when you are not doing so much driving–it can make you more tired than normal. Also I wouldn’t recommend the juice drinks you can get at most grocery stores as they are pasturized and most are primarily fruit juice.
